The appearance of teak, the benefits of technology
A unique rigid, synthetic decking system
Will retain the look
of new teak for many years
Significantly cooler to touch on hot days compared with flexible synthetic
decking
Almost no maintenance
and does not need any special cleaning solvents
Can be washed with
soap and water, or power washed
Excellent non-slip
surface, even when wet
More resistant to
scuffing compared with most flexible decking products, particularly in high foot
traffic areas or under deck furniture
More impact resistant
than teak and most other competing decking products
3 year UV and stain
resistance factory warranty
Tongue and groove with
a built in black seam that significantly reduces caulking compared with real
teak installations
Note: Jan 2008: The factory has discontinued the tongue and groove and black seam, in favour of plain square edge strips to be spaced and caulked entirely like a real teak deck. This approach does use more caulking but it provides a better waterproof and algae-proof seal between strips. We also supply a spacer extrusion that fills half the seam to minimize the additional caulking needed. Depending on a customer's needs, they may consider a special run if the quantity required is large enough - please call to discuss if you prefer the incorporated black seam.
Rigid decking that
will require less sub-deck fairing prior to installation than most flexible
decking solutions
Bonded to the sub-deck
with non-hazardous, moisture curing adhesives
Underside of Tek-Dek
has dovetailed channels that not only increase the surface area for chemical
bonding, but add a mechanical grip to bedding adhesives, unlike some competing
flexible decking products without this key feature
No screws required
hence preserving integrity of the sub-deck
Rigid decking that
will not bubble as some flexible decks are prone to do if not extremely careful
with applying adhesive, rolling and weighting during installation
With the application
of heat, strips can be bent to conform to curves of toe rails, bulwarks etc… and
they stay curved once cooled
Deck margins and field
strips can be cut and shaped to follow the best practices of high quality real
teak installations
Any of the rigid
extrusions can be used as deck margins since they can be cleanly cut with
routers where rounded over or beveled edges are needed
Table saws, scroll and
band saws can be used to trim, shape or rip strips cleanly without melting or
burring the material, a common complaint with flexible decking
Shipwrights accustomed
to working with wood decking, will easily transfer skills to the installation of
the rigid Tek-Dek “Professional”
